how randstad digital drove the program forward.
The project leveraged cutting-edge technologies, including autonomous vehicle middleware, C++ programming, the Ubuntu Linux environment, SIL testing, and CANalyzer for comprehensive testing. The project evolved in stages:
- Initial Stage: A three-person US-based team initiated the project.
- European Expansion: The team expanded into our low-cost center in Romania, tapping into a wealth of automotive engineering expertise.
- Scope Expansion: As the team grew, they undertook additional responsibilities, including developing software requirements, design, and testing for compliance with ISO 19014-4 Functional Safety Performance Level C (PL=c) for Earth-moving machinery.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Randstad Digital's US lead evolved to achieve architect status within the client's organization, becoming a subject matter expert in their platform.
- Team Growth: The team expanded to ten members, including seven skilled engineers based in Romania.
the outcome.
we proposed a comprehensive solution that addressed the client's challenges and propelled their software platform to new heights:
- Cross-Continental Expertise: Our team, anchored by a lead architect based in the US, established a strong connection with the client's teams across the US and Romania, fostering efficient communication and collaboration.
- Code Harmonization: Recognizing the need for efficient maintenance, our team embarked on a journey to harmonize common code elements across projects. This endeavor streamlined processes and reduced maintenance overhead.
- Unified Communication Tool: Identifying a critical need, our team developed a unified data link communication tool. This innovation facilitated seamless communication within the platform and showcased our technical acumen.
- Developer Training Program: Randstad Digital created a tailored training program, empowering the client's developers to quickly adapt to the client's unique development processes and technologies.
The team was entrusted with a range of development tasks, including requirement authoring, detailed software design, coding, unit testing, and structural code coverage. The results were outstanding:
- Safety Compliance: The team successfully achieved ISO 19014-4 Functional Safety Performance Level C (PL=c) compliance, highlighting their commitment to safety and quality.
- Communication Tool: The team architected and developed a comprehensive tool for unified J1939 and proprietary parameter datalink communication, showcasing their innovation.
- Software Contributions: The team's expertise contributed to various software features, including payload measurement for Hydraulic Mining Shovels and Medium Wheel Loaders, cycle segmentation for Electric Rope Shovels, radar-based Object Detection, Smart Camera-based Personnel Detection, Operator Coaching for Articulated Trucks and Large Wheel Loaders, and the implementation of an automated integration test framework.
